Chelsea Stay Top After Draw With City
Chelsea remain five points clear at the top of the Premier League after a 1-1 draw with second-placed Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. Loic Remy put Chelsea ahead just before half-time from close range after an uneventful opening, but the visitors went into the break level after David Silva turned home Sergio Aguero’s effort. Chelsea great Frank Lampard made his first appearance back at his old club in the 77th minute, but could not alter the scoreline as both sides cancelled each other out in a nervy encounter.

No angel but not guilty, says banned Chelsea striker Costa
Chelsea striker Diego Costa has denied he deliberately stamped on Liverpool's Emre Can but admitted to being no angel on the field. The Brazilian-born Spain international missed Saturday's top-of-the-table 1-1 draw with Manchester City after serving the first of a three-game ban for the incident during Tuesday's League Cup semi-final, second leg victory at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea draws with Man City; Madrid rolls without Ronaldo
Chelsea settled for a 1-1 draw with title rival Manchester City to protect its Premier League lead Saturday, and Real Madrid won big without the suspended Cristiano Ronaldo to stay on top of the Spanish standings. Chelsea appeared content with the stalemate that kept Jose Mourinho's side five-points clear of City, which now has neighbor Manchester United just five points behind after it beat Leicester 3-1. Karim Benzema filled Ronaldo's void by scoring twice to lead Madrid's 4-1 thrashing of Real Sociedad, ensuring it stayed in front of Barcelona for another week.

Chelsea’s Diego Costa: I’m no angel but didn’t deserve to be banned
• Costa says he will not change the way he plays
Diego Costa has denied he deliberately stamped on Liverpool’s Emre Can in the Capital One Cup semi-final but admitted: “I am no angel.”
The Chelsea striker was banned for three games for treading on Can’s ankle in the second leg, a decision that enraged José Mourinho and his club. The Brazilian-born Spaniard, who contested the FA’s retrospective charge, was suspended for the leaders’ game on Saturday against Manchester City which ended 1-1.

Sergio Agüero provides the guile to keep Manchester City in title chase | Barney Ronay
• Match report: Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City
As you were then. On a raw, chilly, boisterous night at Stamford Bridge a match billed as the most watched in Premier League history ended with Manchester City, driven on by their enduring creative stars Sergio Agüero and David Silva, having the best part of a 1-1 draw. However, Chelsea, whose own much-vaunted creative midfield faded as the match progressed, took greater comfort in a share of the points.
But then this mid-season blockbuster had always looked a City-facing affair, a more significant match for the champions than for the team five points clear at the top. City are, of course, seasoned chasers, but whether they have the legs to hunt Chelsea down this time around seems likely to turn on the familiar but still endlessly beguiling strengths on show here once again.

Chelsea and Man City play out a 1-1 stalemate
By Toby Davis LONDON (Reuters) - League leaders Chelsea stayed five points clear of champions Manchester City at the top of the Premier League after the two frontrunners in the title race fought to 1-1 stalemate at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The goals came in a three minute spell before halftime with Chelsea the first to strike after 41 minutes when Branislav Ivanovic crossed for Eden Hazard, whose low ball across goal found Loic Remy who side-footed it into the empty net. City equalised three minutes later when Jesus Navas crossed into the area. Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois failed to clear properly, sending the ball to Sergio Aguero whose goalbound shot was turned in by David Silva.

Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City | Premier League match report
José Mourinho was not willing to offer his verdict on this tense draw between the two teams at the top of the Premier League. Apparently it is the fault of Jamie Redknapp, and all the other rotters in the media, that Diego Costa was suspended from this match and Mourinho, in turn, is applying his own ban. It is a siege mentality at Stamford Bridge right now and it is tempting they might have boarded up the pressbox and dismantled the television gantry if Manchester City had made the most of their superiority.
As it turned out, Costa was not too badly missed bearing in mind his replacement, Loïc Remy, scored Chelsea’s goal. Yet they did badly miss the injured Cesc Fàbregas given the way City’s midfield played with the greater control. It was a strangely dishevelled performance from the league leaders and City had enough of the ball to feel like they ought to have darkened Mourinho’s mood by another notch or two.
