Expect Chelsea fight for first-choice keeper spot - Mourinho
Petr Cech is ready to take up the challenge of competing with Thibaut Courtois for the position of Chelsea's number one goalkeeper, manager Jose Mourinho said on Thursday. Belgian international Courtois, 22, has returned to his parent club following a long-term loan spell with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid and will battle with the Czech keeper for the starting role at Stamford Bridge. Cech, 32, who has been Chelsea's number one for the past decade, is back from the dislocated shoulder he suffered in May and has featured in the pre-season games. "Petr is working hard, he recovered in almost record time from his surgery and he's ready to fight for his position," Mourinho told Sky Sports television.

Jose Mourinho: Lukaku Lacked Motivation to Play for Chelsea
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has fired a parting shot at departing striker Romelu Lukaku, who was revealed as an Everton player on Thursday. Lukaku signed for Chelsea in 2011 from Anderlecht, but made only 10 Premier League appearances in the first team and spent the last couple of seasons on loan first at West Bromwich Albion and most recently at Everton.

Southampton take Bertrand on loan from Chelsea
Full back Ryan Bertrand has joined Southampton on a season-long loan from fellow Premier League side Chelsea. The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, and will fill the void left by Luke Shaw, who has moved to Manchester United. "He is a top player who will bring a lot of quality to the team," manager Ronald Koeman told the club website (www.saintsfc.co.uk). "He has experience at the highest level and is an exciting, attacking player, which is what I like to see in my full-backs." Bertrand, capped twice by England, joined Chelsea in 2006 but has struggled for game time and has spent loan spells at six clubs before this latest move.

Lukaku lost focus as was not first choice - Mourinho
Jose Mourinho says striker Romelu Lukaku is a "good kid" but was not motivated enough to fight for a starting spot at Chelsea. The Belgian international moved to Everton for a reported 28 million pounds on Wednesday, having scored 16 goals in 33 appearances while on loan, his second spell away from Chelsea, at Goodison Park last season. He joined Chelsea from Anderlecht for 18 million pounds in 2011 but failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge and spent the 2012-13 season on loan at West Bromwich Albion. The arrival of Spain striker Diego Costa and return of Ivorian Didier Drogba pushed the 21-year-old further down the pecking order at Chelsea, with manager Mourinho saying the Belgian lacked motivation to compete for a starting spot.
