Stephen Ireland aiming high as resurgent Stoke train sights on Chelsea

Win over Hull leaves Stoke six points clear in 10th

Steve Bruce says Hull did not deserve to lose

Stoke will achieve their best Premier League finish if they remain in 10th place for the rest of the season but the midfielder Stephen Ireland says they are in no mood to settle for their current position.

Stoke's highest final ranking of 11th came in 2009-10, but they have six matches to go and are looking good for a place higher. Eleventh-placed West Ham and 12th-placed Aston Villa both have a game in hand over them, but Stoke moved six points clear with this win. The gap between Stoke and ninth place presently occupied by a Newcastle side that have six fixtures left is also six points.
