John Terry signs one-year contract extension to stay at Chelsea

Captain extends career at Stamford Bridge to 17th season

Frank Lampard also close to signing new one-year deal

John Terry has signed a new one-year contract at Chelsea after agreeing terms to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge into a 17th senior campaign, with the former England captain becoming the first of a trio of senior players whose deals are due to expire next month to commit his future to the club.


Jose Mourinho had long championed Terry's case to remain at the club, for whom he has played since he was 14, after a resurgent campaign at the heart of the Londoners' defence. Yet negotiations with the 33-year-old's representatives had appeared to stall recently with the player in the dark over where he would be playing his football next term as he, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard all saluted the crowd on a lap of appreciation following the final home game against Norwich.
