A taste of the FA chairman Greg Dyke's vision for the future of English football was served at Old Trafford as Chelsea overcame Manchester United to lift the Premier League Under-21s trophy. Lewis Baker struck a superb late winner for the visitors to confirm there is talent rising through the system without recourse to 'B-team' football imposed on the lower leagues.
With Ryan Giggs in the Netherlands to discuss United's present with Louis Van Gaal, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and other luminaries such as Sir Bobby Charlton had an eye on the club's future at Old Trafford, where free admission swelled the attendance to an impressive 13,20. They United were given further confirmation of the promise of James Wilson and Tom Lawrence, the two United youngsters handed Premier League debuts by Giggs against Hull City last week, plus the depth of talent coming through at Stamford Bridge.
