Suarez facing big financial hit from alleged bite
Luis Suarez faces the prospect of a big financial hit following his alleged biting of Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, with existing sponsorship deals potentially being ripped up and future endorsements put in jeopardy. Though the team ended placing second behind Manchester City, it gained many supporters for its attacking flair and Suarez was voted player of the year. The signing up of Suarez, who is a keen poker enthusiast, was a further sign that Suarez had rehabilitated his image following a biting incident with Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic the previous season. A far bigger profile for Suarez comes from adidas, which is FIFA's oldest partner - the relationship goes back to 1970.

Mancini early favourite to be next Italy coach
By Simon Evans RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Former Inter Milan and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has emerged as the early favourite to be the next Italy coach after Cesare Prandelli resigned following the Azzurri’s World Cup exit on Tuesday. Italy’s 1-0 defeat by Uruguay sent them out of the tournament following a loss to Costa Rica and a win over England in Group D and Prandelli said he took responsibility for the failure. Influential daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport cited Mancini as the most likely to be offered the job along with former AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri. Mancini is available after leaving Turkish club Galatasaray this month and he has the backing of Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

World Cup 2014: day 14 live!
Frank Lampard dims the lights on a stellar England career
Frank Lampard was approached by a clutch of Costa Ricans on the final whistle, each requesting his shirt. He suggested to at least two that he would prefer to swap in the tunnel before Michael Barrantes persistence eventually paid off just as the man still contracted for another week to Chelsea joined his team-mates on the trudge towards the travelling support. Those youngsters in the party were offering thanks. The elder statesman was most likely also bidding farewell.
His partnership with Steven Gerrard had been reconvened for a little over a quarter of an hour as if for old times sake, a reminder of a bygone era offered up amid glimpses of Englands future. In some ways it was appropriate this contest should fizzle out just as the veterans brushes with this tournament did. This was all so horribly low key, with the Costa Rica focus on the knockout phase and England, for all the wide-eyed enthusiasm of their younger contingent, still choked by disappointment. Lampard conducted an interview pitch-side, nominally selected as Englands most impressive performer, but there was little to celebrate. The mood was one of despondency.

Suarez can stop biting, but it won't be easy: psychologists
By Philip O'Connor RECIFE Brazil (Reuters) - Luis Suarez can learn to stop biting opponents but it will not be a quick or easy process, senior psychologists have said following the Uruguay striker's bite on the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup. Suarez, twice previously banned for biting, is under investigation by FIFA for the incident late in the Group D clash on Tuesday and faces another lengthy suspension. "From what I've seen in the video footage, Suarez took out his frustration and anger on Chiellini from blocking his access to the ball by reactively and impulsively biting him," Eva Kimonis, senior lecturer at the School of Psychology at the University of New South Wales in Australia, told Reuters via email. "It may be one manifestation of a broader, long-term pattern of misbehavior that involves other forms of aggression - hitting, bullying, shouting, physical fighting - and is common to people with particularly hot tempers and impulsiveness." Liverpool forward Suarez was served a 10-game suspension last year after biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in a Premier League match and spent seven games on the sidelines in 2010 for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal while playing for Ajax Amsterdam.

5 controversies in Luis Suarez's career
Luis Suarez was embroiled in another biting controversy on Tuesday when the Uruguay striker appeared to sink his teeth into Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini's shoulder in a crucial World Cup group game. Here are five controversies involving the 27-year-old Liverpool player: --- BITE NO. The referee missed the incident and Suarez was not punished during the game but Bakkal pulled his shirt down afterward to show a red mark on his shoulder - a similar place to where Suarez appeared to bite Italy's Chiellini at the World Cup on Tuesday. 2 Three years later in 2013, Suarez - now playing for Liverpool - was slapped with a 10-match ban in the English Premier League for biting the arm of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Lukaku World Cup woe goes on with Chelsea future hanging in the balance
World Cup fever grips America but can soccer make it mainstream?
TV ratings for soccer are up, fans are packing the bars, and Jürgen Klinsmann's team is on the verge of qualification from Group G. Is the US finally ready to embrace the global game?
With its ales, dartboards, Chelsea FC memorabilia and replica-kitted fans avidly watching the World Cup on an array of screens, the Brewery Tap could be anywhere in west London.
But the pub is in downtown Houston, Texas, with the languid Buffalo Bayou just to the rear and the skyscraping headquarters of oil and gas corporations leering over its entrance.
