Chelsea continue to set the pace at the top of the Premier League but Queens Park Rangers nearly broke their stride. José Mourinho stewed on the sidelines as his team required a penalty from Eden Hazard to overcome Harry Redknapps struggling side, who had drawn level in the second half thanks to Charlie Austin. Oscar had given the home side the lead with a sumptuous strike in a first half in which Chelsea were mostly dominant but at times frivolous. The killer instinct that Mourinho craves still needs honing.
The pre-match atmosphere was inflated by an air of expectancy that made Stamford Bridge akin to a playground in which the schools biggest bully was about to rumble with its daftest wimp. Mourinho deployed his most powerful available line-up, with the fit-again Diego Costa returning to the side for the first time in almost a month as Chelsea made no concession to the forthcoming trip to Maribor in the Champions League nor next weekends showdown with Liverpool. Mourinho evidently wants his team to continue setting the pace in the Premier League and was eager for them to regain their winning stride following last weekends last-minute stumble at Old Trafford. Queens Park Rangers had been wretched on the road this season, losing everywhere and scoring just once as they conceded 12.
