• Manchester City suffer huge blow over striker
• Aguero will miss Chelsea clash on Monday
Sergio Agüero could miss up to a month due to a hamstring injury, with Manchester City's top scorer appearing certain to sit out the opening Champions League last-16 first leg against Barcelona at the Etihad Stadium on 18 February.
Agüero suffered the problem in Wednesday evening's 5-1 defeat of Tottenham Hotspur when after opening the scoring the striker was taken off at half-time.
Agüero tweeted later that this was a "precaution." But Manuel Pellegrini stated the forward, who has 26 goals in 25 appearances, could be unavailable for four weeks. "Maybe one month but we are not sure now," said the manager, who shrugged off Agüero's absence.
"Yes of course [it will be difficult] because he is a top player for us but I think we will replace him, we hope we can continuing doing. Sergio [was] just coming back from a [calf] injury when he could not play for a month and all the other strikers replaced him, so I hope they continue the same way."
Agüero is certain to miss Monday's visit of Chelsea, the trip to Norwich City the following week – each of which are in the league – before Chelsea are again at the Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup fifth round on 15 February, ahead of the first match with Barcelona.
If he is out the full month, the league trip to Stoke City, and, possibly, the Capital One Cup final against Sunderland at Wembley on 2 March could also be out of reach for the Argentinian.
