Sunderland set to buy Patrick van Aanholt from Chelsea

Dutch defender has only played nine times for the Blues

Spent last season on loan with Vitesse

Patrick van Aanholt is on the brink of swapping Chelsea for Sunderland. The 23-year-old Holland left back is expected to complete the transfer by Saturday at the latest before joining Gus Poyets squad at their pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Van Aanholt, a youngster at Stamford Bridge when Lee Congerton, now Sunderlands sporting director, was Chelseas chief scout, has spent the last two-and-a-half seasons on loan at Vitesse in his home country.
