Sheffield United’s Nigel Clough: Spurs may be on high alert after cup shocks

• ‘We will try to use surprise results as Capital One Cup inspiration’

• Tottenham look to bounce back from FA Cup elimination

• Semi-final first leg: Townsend penalty gives Spurs narrow edge

Sheffield United’s manager, Nigel Clough, has no doubt the cup upsets of recent days will provide inspiration for his side in their Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur – but also that Spurs will now be on red alert about the prospect of becoming the latest giant-killing victims.


There were some major shocks sprung by lower-league clubs facing Premier League opposition in the FA Cup fourth round, most notably on Saturday when Bradford City of League One won 4-2 at Chelsea and the Championship side Middlesbrough triumphed 2-0 at Manchester City.
