José Mourinho was the subject of a failed approach from Tottenham after he left Chelsea in September 2007.

Speaking before Sunday’s Capital One Cup final between the sides, when he will seek a first trophy of his second spell at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho admitted that an exit clause had prevented him from managing in England for two years – and that Spurs had not been able to agree compensation with Chelsea to cancel it.
